Frequently Asked Questions
Do you do coverups?
My work is typically not suited to covering existing tattoos as it relies too heavily on negative space. If your piece is small or faint, it may be possible - particularly if you’re open to a colour piece. I always invite you to email me and send images of your tattoo, so we can work out what would be best!
Can you tattoo over scars?
Usually, yes! If your scar is healed (>1 year old), I will be able to tattoo over it. It’s always worth emailing me some references, if you feel comfortable, so we can work out what is possible.
What is your rate?
I tend to charge per piece as I work really quickly and often with hourly pricing end up drastically undercharging for my work. As a rough guide, my minimum is £150 and most of my single session tattoos typically range in price from £250 - £500. An accurate quote is given once we’ve finalised your idea!
For larger scale work or work over multiple sessions, I typically charge hourly as it would be impossible to quote otherwise. My rate in that regard is £100/hr.
If budget is a factor, I will always work within the range you are comfortable with and will communicate to you what I can do within that range; wether it’s a less complex piece or moving your piece in to smaller sessions so as to spread the cost somewhat. Coverups and certain placements (chest, ribs, etc) are more time consuming, and are therefore priced accordingly. The size of the tattoo is much less of a factor than complexity/placement, and it is always better to go larger so as to support detail. It is often the case that smaller tattoos are often more time consuming as they become more complex thus can actually increase in price.
What's your 'community rate?'
My community rate is half of my standard rate and is reserved for black and dark skinned people. I introduced this rate as a way of tackling both racism within the industry and, closer to home, my underrepresentation of anyone not light-skinned within my portfolio. It’s my hope that by offering a community rate in this way, I can encourage clients to work with me who would otherwise feel my work was not for them. It is. It is for everyone, and I wish my portfolio reflected that more accurately.
I offer out a handful of these slots per month in order to accommodate clients that I really do not tattoo enough of. If this applies to you, let me know and I will allocate you my soonest reduced rate appointment.
Where do you work?
I work inside of my own studio, The Aviary. It’s a safe space, completely private and located just outside of the centre of Leeds, UK.
What types of payment do you accept?
I take cash, bank transfer and Klarna.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I require a non-refundable deposit for all appointments. The deposit comes off the final total, and covers costs such as drawing in the event of a last minute cancellation.
I try to be super flexible (shit happens), so am happy to reschedule appointments when it’s needed! I only ask that I receive as much notice as possible, so I can fill the space and subsequently transfer your deposit over to a new date - if you reschedule with less than 72 hours notice, you will lose your deposit and a new one will be required to reschedule.
*It’s also worth noting that no-shows are never tolerated within our studio. If you fail to show for your appointment without any warning (an email on the day suffices), you forfeit your deposit and will be rejected from all future booking requests from all artists within The Aviary.
How do I book a tattoo with you?
I try to keep my bookings open and have a flow of constant bookings. It does mean I’m slightly pickier about what work I take on, but it also means I try not to book more than two/three months in advance so there’s never forever to wait. Use this booking form to book in with me - it asks you everything I’ll need to know so you can get booked in as quickly as possible.
Last minute appointments are offered up through Instagram - so make sure you’re following me on their if you’re more flexible and can fill last minute appointment openings.
